The concept, which specializes in delicious donuts and warm ambiance, will be opening its third shop in the Westerly building, located at 350 Maple Drive, SW. Good Company Doughnuts co-owner and president, Charles Kachadoorian, spoke with What Now DC about creating the District’s next great local hangout. “We looked into the area and we knew the Wharf was there- we looked at the neighborhood there and we thought it would be a great opportunity. There’s a lot going on there-it’s close to the metro, close to the waterfront, in a nice little neighborhood spot. We’re a neighborhood spot, so that fit in with our vision.”

While Good Company Doughnuts may be new to the DC dining scene, Kachadoorian explains that plans have been in the works for the shop’s District debut for quite some time. “We actually signed this deal a long time ago,” he states. “This is part of our growth strategy. This has been planned out for close to 3 years.”

Family and veteran-owned, Good Company Doughnuts strives to create a welcoming, intimate environment. “We want to be a neighborhood spot.” explains Kachadoorian, adding “We’re from a small town and we want to deliver that small town customer service-personal, friendly, inviting- while serving excellent specialty coffee.”

Of course  Kachadoorian and his partners realize that the company’s titular carbs are what draw in the crowds. “We make what we think are the best donuts available” he says. “We do all of them by hand. They’re all hand-cut and made with fresh ingredients.People can expect great yeast and cake donuts.”

While customers can look forward to traditional doughnuts, they won’t be constrained to them-Good Company boasts an impressive array of the sweet treat. “Every day, people can expect about 40 different flavors.”  Kachadoorian states. “We have a mix of classics and specialty donuts-more modern flavors, a little fancier.”

He explains that guests hoping for something savory before their sweet will have plenty of options as well. “We do soup, salad, sandwiches-a light fare menu. We do excellent breakfast sandwiches that are really unique, and in different sizes. We do breakfast bowls- if someone’s looking for a big breakfast, we have really delicious smoky brisket and hash, or steak and eggs, or you can get a healthier egg grain bowl. Lunch time, we have great sandwiches-a Cubano, a rubanesque. In the evening, we offer a few dinner options. We have some really good craft cocktails too-we do doughnut pairings with cocktails and wine and beer.”

Kachadoorian says that construction is wrapping up on the new location and the partners are waiting for their liquor license to be approved. The Good Company crew is hoping to begin serving guests in late spring.

Once the shop opens its doors, future regulars can look forward to enjoying its fare seven days a week. The cafe will be open from 7 am to 9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, complete with dinner service, and from 7 am to 5 pm on Sundays and Mondays.

The Good Company team has further plans on the horizon, including a soon-to-be-launched food truck, however, the team’s current primary focus is on creating the best possible shop in DC.  Kachadoorian sums it up, stating “People can expect great quality and friendly customer service. We want to be a part of the community.”
