The restaurant will be serving its signature brand of genuine Mexican food out of the Upside on Moore food hall, located at 1700 North Moore Street.

La Michoacana co-owner Jimmy Valdez spoke with What Now DC about returning the restaurant to its DC roots. “Rosslyn looks like the perfect location to expand our business since DC is just across the bridge.” Valdez states. “La Michoacana was originally founded in DC so after a few years in Maryland, we think we should work with our DC people again.”

At a time when DC foodies are pushing back against the District’s frequent and unexpected restaurant fees, Rosslyn provides La Michoacana with an accessible location, devoid of surprise charges. Valdez explains “We think Rosslyn will be the destination for many Washingtonians given the fact that multiple fees are added to receipts when visiting restaurants in DC. and we love our DC people.”

The restaurant allows guests to experience highly authentic, incredibly fresh Mexican cuisine they may not have otherwise been exposed to. Valdez states “La Michoacana is very unique concept making almost everything from scratch. From our own tortillas to our sauces in every taco. Visiting us will transport you to Mexico with some of our best tacos such as birria, pastor, and carnitas.”

DMV area diners eager to sample La Michoacana’s incredible food should consider trying the eatery’s birria salmon. Valdez explains that not only is it the restaurant’s signature dish, it “was published as ‘the 25 best tacos in DMV 2022’ by the Washington Post and we were also named one of the best taquerias in the DMV by the Washingtonian in the same year.”

DMV residents can look forward to savoring some of the region’s best fare in mid-March, when the Upside on Moore food hall opens.

Chefs Ismael Montero and Lucio Montero will be lending their considerable culinary talents to the concept and leading the La Michoacana kitchen.
