The establishment, which will be opening at 3404 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., Suite 3, will prominently feature wine curated by Michelin Starred sommelier Sarah Thompson. According to documents from the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration pertaining to Vinery, the restaurant will be able to accommodate up to 40 guests, with space for 36 customers indoors, and outdoor seating in a summer garden for up to 4.
Vinery is the culmination of the friendship and business partnership between married duo James Beach and Caitlin Tuttle, who own PLNTR and husband-and-wife team Chef Henji Cheung and sommelier Sarah Thompson, the masterminds behind Queen’s English. A statement provided to What Now DC details the origins and intentions of the project, saying: “James and Caitlin’s partnership with Henji and Sarah blossomed from a friendship into a successful collaboration in 2020, marked by their first joint holiday market at Queen’s English.
The markets created a space for creativity and community where plants and wine took center stage. Each year since 2020, PLNTR and Queen’s English have held these neighborhood markets and saw what a positive vibe it brought to the neighborhood. In 2022, PLNTR opened a brick-and-mortar location in Dupont and in 2024, with a second plant shop on the horizon and a few more markets at QE under their belt- the dynamic between the four entrepreneurs was too obvious to ignore, Vinery was about to take shape.”
In addition to excellent wine the shop will offer plenty of education and activities related to plants and botany. Vinery’s official Facebook page heralds the opening, stating:”Vinery will bring everything you love about PLNTR + but with bottles – meaning you will leave the shop a more knowledgeable and confident wine lover! Expect killer vibes, workshops and tastings with a big focus on terrariums.”
