The smell of warm cookies will soon be emanating from 1201 Half Street, SE suite 130, a space most recently occupied by Hip City Veg. The building currently carries the fingerprints of both establishments; while Hip City Veg’s name is still over the door, the windows are covered with signage for Insomnia.

What Now DC has reached out to the beloved bakery for further details. While a firm opening date was not available, a representative from Insomnia confirmed that the brand is planning to open the Navy Yard shop “in the next few months”.

Insomnia Cookies has had a meteoric rise since Penn student Seth Berkowitz founded the company in 2003. Originally created as a way for students to satiate their late night hunger pangs, the chain has ballooned to more than 240 locations across the country. Of those shops, five are located in DC.
