The eatery’s second location will be occupying 3,100 square feet on the ground floor of 1800 Chain Bridge Road. The Tysons location will be a homecoming of sorts for owner Caroline Yi, who tells What Now DC that a Virginia shop was always in the cards. “I always knew I’d want my second location to be in Northern Virginia because I grew up going to church in McLean and I really loved the area.” she states, adding that Sunday Morning Bakehouse will fill a void in the local dining scene. “Having been around that area from childhood all the way to college, I always felt like a bakery/coffeeshop like ours was exactly what was missing from this community.”

Sunday Morning Bakehouse has caused quite a splash at its first home, amassing loyal customers, enthusiastic to enjoy the cafe’s fare at additional locations. Yi explains that while COVID hindered her initial expansion plans, the timing for the Tysons location is ideal: “I always say if it weren’t for the pandemic, we probably would have had another location open by this point, but everything happens for a reason and we came across this opportunity at the right time. As we approach our five year anniversary at Pike & Rose, we’ve hit a nice pace of business with steady growth year after year. We have an incredible team helping to run the bakery like a well-oiled machine and I felt that expanding was the next obvious step.”

Yi intends to carry the same high-quality menu and warm sense of community that has made Sunday Morning Bakehouse such a local favorite over to Tysons. She says: “We plan to offer the same pastries and food people know and love and continue with seasonal specialties as well. Our interior design will be slightly more updated and modern as my personal tastes have changed over the past 7 years since designing our first location.”

Sunday Morning Bakehouse prioritizes offering a pleasant atmosphere where customers can enjoy respite from the modern world, all while enjoying delectable treats and warm drinks. Yi calls it “A gathering place where you could meet up with friends to catch up over high quality coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and toast all on freshly baked homemade breads…we want to be able to provide our croissants and coffee to as many people as possible while keeping up the highest quality and service we can deliver. We are a family business and aim to keep it that way.”

Yi and her crew are in the process of permitting and will soon begin construction on the shop. Sunday Morning Bakehouse is aiming to open pre-Thanksgiving, just in time to warm up Northern Virginia’s holiday season.

Yi looks forward to becoming a part of Tysons’ fabric. She hopes to provide: “An escape from the busy-ness and chaos of daily life to enjoy high quality food that reminds you of home, but better. Walk in, settle in to your table by the window with a warm chocolate croissant and a hot latte. People watch or just take a moment to yourself. There’s nothing better.”
