A representative of Shake Shack was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now DC’s request.

The article states, “A Shake Shack spokesperson confirmed the restaurant is coming, with an expected opening date sometime in 2024.”

“Shake Shack Inc., headquartered in New York City, serves burgers, chicken, hot dogs, crinkle-cut fries, shakes, frozen custard, beer and wine, among other items. The company operated or licensed 471 Shake Shacks as of June 28, according to its most recent earnings report.”

Shake Shack’s journey began in the heart of New York City’s Madison Square Park, where it started as what is described as a humble hot dog cart. It aimed to raise funds for a public art project. Little did the founders know that this modest hot dog cart would evolve into a global enterprise, with a mission to “Stand For Something Good” beyond just serving delicious food.

The essence of Shake Shack’s mission is deeply rooted in a commitment to doing good. As the business expanded, so did its mission. The company vowed to take care of its team, meticulously source premium ingredients from partners who shared the same devotion to quality, design its Shacks responsibly and support the communities it was a part of through donations, events, and volunteering.

One of Shake Shack’s core principles is accountability. They hold themselves to the highest standards, from the sourcing of quality ingredients that align with stringent animal welfare practices to constructing Shacks that serve as beautiful and sustainable community gathering spaces. Their guiding principle is simple: always do the right thing.

The company collaborates with local artists and ingredient providers, supports non-profit organizations and school groups through fundraisers, and actively participates in making a positive impact in the communities it serves, according to the company website.
