The popular brand is hoping to plant its flag at 621 King Street, a building that previously housed a Burke and Herbert bank. The special use permit filed with the Department of Planning and Zoning states that the 2,570 square foot space will have seating for up to 36 guests.

If approved, Shake Shack’s Old Town location will be open daily from 11 am to 11 pm and anticipates serving around 400 guests a day.

While in-store dining will be offered, the concept expects the vast majority of orders to be to-go or delivery. Shake Shack projects that only 30 percent of their daily operations will be enjoyed on-site.

Founded in New York in 2004, the beloved chain has expanded to include more than 510 locations globally. Despite this impressive claim, the Old Town storefront would be Shake Shack’s first Alexandria home.

The company is looking forward to entrenching itself in the neighborhood, saying “We aim to make our shacks more than a place to eat burgers and fries, but a place for the community to gather safely.”
