The 301 Massachusetts Avenue NE location has had a long and complicated journey from concept to finished product. Pupatella first announced their intentions to open several company owned restaurants, including the Capitol Hill eatery, in August of 2021.

Pupatella applied for a liquor license for the location in June of 2022. According to the application, the restaurant will be able to seat 110 customers, with additional outdoor accommodations for up to 166 across two sidewalk cafes. The permit also allows for live entertainment within the facility, indicating guests can look forward to a fully engrossing nightlife experience when they dine at Pupatella.

Since then the building which formerly housed Romeo & Juliet and The White Tiger has seen little forward momentum. However recent photos show a “coming soon” banner hanging and what appears to be early stages of construction.

Founded in 2007, Pupatella is well-known for its Neapolitan style pizza and small plates. Using only wood-fire ovens and adhering to the strict rules prescribed to earn the designation of a true Neapolitan pizza, Capitol Hill customers will certainly find the restaurant worth the wait.
