Co-founder Fayzan Mirza spoke with What Now DC about the new shop, located at 44933 George Washington Boulevard. Mirza explained the allure of the new location, stating “Our family has lived in Northern Virginia since the 70s, and we have seen the ongoing development in Loudoun County, including Ashburn.  With real estate development, restaurants, activities, universities, etcetera.  And Ashburn has continued to grow and has a diverse population, which is to be celebrated.  The location we have selected for our first retail cafe is ideal for us in terms of size, and the variety of businesses the University Commerce Center has to offer the community.”

Authors Best-Selling Ice Creams has seen steady and consistent growth, inspiring leadership to move towards an established and regular home. Mirza explains “We have now outgrown our current production location, and we are excited to move to a larger space in Ashburn where we will not only produce our small-batch premium ice creams and sorbets, but also offer scoops onsite, which is something we have been asked often…do we have a shop, a ‘brick and mortar’?”

Mirza explains that each scoop is community-oriented, saying  “Our premium ice creams and sorbets are creamy and flavorful, using intentionally sourced local and global ingredients and we are excited to offer them not only at farmers markets, but in our store.  Authors Best-Selling Ice Creams is now ready to add on coffee, pastries, and short eats.”

Authors Best-Selling Ice Creams plans to incorporate the personalized business practices it learned from farmer’s market pop-ups to its first brick and mortar. Mirza explains “We truly enjoyed being at the farmers markets each season and we plan to continue to participate.  With each new flavor, we valued feedback from our loyal customers before a flavor became official, so we hope to build upon that relationship in our new location.  A welcoming atmosphere with high quality service is very important to us. Our vibrant space and cozy seating environment will allow customers of all ages to enjoy our small-batch ice cream, artisanal espresso and coffee, pastries, and short eats. It’s a place where customers will be presented with in-season offerings and deliciously-good flavors inspired from around the globe.”

The distinctive shop hopes to tap into a greater nostalgia. Even the name is indicative of the drive for something inspiring. Mirza details the motivation, stating “We often spoke about our childhood memories of ice cream…summer days, visiting family, birthdays, special occasions, on vacation, etc.  At farmers markets too, customers often shared their ice cream stories from the past or present, like from a recent trip.  So often when our customers get their ice cream, their eyes light up with a big smile, and sometimes it can bring a comforting memory..  We believe these expressions speak true to the nostalgia of simple moments.   Authoring moments with you…   Best-selling – association with books and a best-seller.”

Future regulars keen to try Authors Best-Selling Ice Creams can rejoice to hear that development is on schedule and construction has commenced. Ashburn residents keen to experience the unique brand needn’t feel overwhelmed; Mirza has recommendations. The co-founder states “A farmers market favorite flavor has been our White Coffee with Dark Chocolate Pearls for those with a sophisticated pallet. We also recommend a fresh waffle cone dipped in dark chocolate with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream (bottom scoop) and a scoop of tangerine sorbet (on top)…and voilà … Creamsicle!”
